Obviously the last sections of the book say that the more you know about the reality of these “things” (the Mothman/ultraterrestrials etc) the more they come for you and try to ruin your life, and Keel even states the best thing to do is just to turn your back on it. John Keel pretty much dropped off the face of the earth after 2001, he didn’t write or do much, and in interviews after 2001 he stated that a lot of the Mothman prophecies was an attempt to create a “modern day mythology” and that his theories of ultraterrestrials were “a literary device” that people “misunderstood” (various interviews online/the preface to the 2001 edition of the Mothman prophecies).
